HAMMERHAND is the collaboration of husband and wife artists Hannes Garrett and Trilby VanDeusen. Together we have worked to create a line of jewelry that is designed to be strong bold and heavy yet comfortable enough to be worn everyday. Heavy gauge sterling silver wire is twisted and hammered to create our line of bracelets and chokers. We are partial to the idea of someone forming their own personal connection to a piece of jewelry. The highest of compliments comes when someone wears our jewelry until the metal has worn thin, like a favorite pair of sneakers. We appreciate that with the purchase of this piece it will become a part of your life.

Our jewelry is intended to be lived in.

bench shot.jpg (12581 bytes)An Arizona native, Hannes started making jewelry in 1974. Hannes Garrett is a true metalsmith at heart; a self taught silversmith, trained blacksmith, certified welder and freelance sculptor. Since 1986 Hannes has worked at Paolo Soleri’s bell foundry in Scottsdale, AZ. Currently he is the Head of the Foundries at Cosanti and Arcosanti. Hannes has mastered the technique of lost Styrofoam casting and taught dozens of apprentices the secrets of running a small sand foundry; working as technical advisor on many projects. He has always been partial to the idea of someone forming their own personal connection to a piece of jewelry and likes knowing that each piece becomes a part of his customer’s lives.

Trilby, originally from Philadelphia, is an artist primarily painting murals and furniture in bright colors with bold designs, heavily influenced by Mexican ancient art and urban contemporary themes. While working and living at Arcosanti and Cosanti she learned techniques of silt & slip casting ceramics, sand-casting bronze and blacksmithing; and was responsible for the Cosanti website. In 1998 Paolo Soleri asked her to head a new ceramics department at Cosanti. In July 2000 she left her work at Cosanti to manage Hammerhand’s business matters, jewelry designs, website and visual graphics.
